世界一重い桜島大根 火山の恵みの伝統野菜 出荷最盛期 鹿児島

桜島大根。重さ31・1キロ、胴回り119センチのギネス記録（2003年）も持っている。
最近のスーパではトマト類の値段は高いままだしジャガイモはこぶりちゃんで、冷蔵庫の中もなかなか埋まらない。キューリは長持ちしないのでむしろレタスの方にシフトし出した。玉ねぎも卵もこぶり気味で昔は卵の中に黄身が2つ入ったものも見かけたこともあったもの。
将来食糧難になるということも考えると今後の在り方も考えさせられる。
野菜は1回の食事量とか保存期間などからは一般家庭用としては意見が分かれるかも知れない。大きいと味がいまいちなどと想像しがちだけれど、近年の食糧不足問題からは、集団の食糧上や畜産の飼料など食料自給率から見ると貴重であるかもしれない。味が良いとするなら輪切りにして乾燥保存するとかの保存方法が検討事項になるかも知れない。
