Are You Looking for a Mid-Priced Phone? The HTC 8S Vs. the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini
If you find yourself confused whilst choosing a new mobile phone, then you`re definitely not alone. With so many different models on the market to decide between, most of us get a little overwhelmed by all the different possibilities dirtyhippieradio. Choosing a new mobile is an important decision though, and not one you should take lightly. Most of us only buy a new phone once every two years or so, so you`ll want to know that you`re making the right decision.
You`ll need a reliable hand set. The majority of people today are dependent on a mobile phone, maybe because their job requires one, or maybe because they`ve given up the expense of running an unnecessary home land line phone ushairextension. This means that a good quality phone is essential, because you can`t afford to pay for a mobile that isn`t going to do everything that you need it to do.
On the subject of money; atop end phone is going to cost you close to six hundred pounds, whilst a budget smart phone will cost around a hundred and fifty or so, and there are plenty of models in between. Price doesn`t always dictate quality, but it usually does, so you might be wondering whether you should save money or splurge on a phone that is a little more expensive and will hopefully have better performance.
You really need to compare mobile models in order to see which offers you the best features for your money. However, this isn`t always as simple as you might think. Mobiles do come with spec sheets that you can use to compare features, but these sheets often have so much technical terminology and so many big numbers that trying to read them can be next to impossible magazine printing. That`s why we want to help you out.
We`ve looked at some of the best mobile deals on the market, and then placed models in head to head comparisons, so that you can see clearly and easily what the best buy is. If you`re looking for a phone and want to ensure that you`re getting something good and making a wise investment, then read on to find out which model we`re going to recommend today...
Introducing the Two Phones...
We`re looking at two relatively affordable phones today. The first is the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini. This is a slightly older model, but it`s still a popular choice with many mobile operators, mostly because it does offer a good balance of features and price. The S III Mini has some great performance specs, and it`s a good looking little device too.
The second phone we`re looking at comes from HTC, who are most well known for making high end business phones. The manufacturer is one of the few companies that make both Windows and Android phones, and the HTC 8S is their budget Windows model. The 8S is the cheaper of the two models we`re looking at today, but that doesn`t necessarily mean that it`s the worse choice.
What You`ll be Paying...
First, you need to decide if you`re looking for pay as you go or contract phones. If you want pay as you go, then you`re going to want to buy your phone SIM free. In this case, the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini will cost you around two hundred and twenty pounds, whilst the HTC 8S is a little cheaper and will run you about one hundred and eighty pounds.
If you`re looking for contract phones then different operators obviously have different prices i-kmega-mens-jewelry. The best deal on the Samsung right now is with Vodafone, and you`ll get the hand set for no money down on a £13 a month contract. For the HTC, the best deal is also with Vodafone, and again it`s no money up front, but this time the contract is a slightly cheaper £11 a month.
The Similarities...
When it comes to the essential specs, these phones are extremely similar. They`re both touch screen models with the same four inch display dimensions. They also both run a 1000 MHz processor, so they`re equally fast, powerful and responsive. You get a 5 MP camera on both models, which is pretty much the standard for this price range.
Both phones are 3.5G devices. This does mean that unfortunately you won`t have the faster mobile internet speeds that 4G capable phones get, but this is quite normal for more budget smart phone models.
The Samsung Galaxy S III Mini...
The Samsung Galaxy S III Mini is more expensive, and it does have a few advantages over the HTC 8S. Firstly, it has a much bigger internal storage capacity, since it has a 16 GB internal memory as opposed to the 4 GB internal memory on the HTC. This means that you`ll be able to store four times more music, photos and data on your device.
The Galaxy also has much better Bluetooth support than the HTC, since it runs Bluetooth 4.0 rather than the older 2.1 version on the 8S. This means that you get faster data transfer and that your phone uses less battery power when connecting to a Bluetooth device such as a hands free set in the car, for example.
As an Android phone, the Galaxy does offer a lot more app choices than the HTC 8S, since the Android App Market has around seven and a half times more apps available to download than the Windows Phone Marketplace. If you`re looking for the latest games and productivity apps, this could be important.
Finally, the Samsung also has a built in FM radio, and the HTC model doesn`t. This is really a necessary feature, but some people do prefer to have a radio.
The HTC 8S...
We looked hard, but the HTC 8S actually has no significant advantages over the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini at all.
Which is Better?
The answer to this question might surprise you, since we actually think that the HTC 8S is a better buy. The Samsung Galaxy S III Mini does have several advantages, but it`s also more expensive, and we don`t think that these advantages make enough of a difference that you should have to pay more for them.
