Cammye McVay and Jacob Everhart grew up in the same small town in New Mexico, but since they were a year apart in school and had different interests, the pair didn’t really get to know each other until Cammye’s first summer home after college. “We hung out a couple of times and truly thought it would be a summer fling, but that did not end up being the case,” she remembers. The pair dated for two weeks—that’s it!—before Cammye moved to Denver, beginning a long-distance relationship that would go on for the next two years. Then, in September 2014, Jacob made the move to Colorado and popped the question in the couple’s favorite park over champagne while watching the sunset. “I’m a wedding planner, so he asked me, ‘How many weddings are you planning this year?’ and I said, “I don’t know, maybe 15?’ and then he pulled out the ring and said, ‘Want to plan one more?’” she says. Naturally, the answer was yes.
Although the pair calls Denver home, they knew they wanted a destination wedding where they could surprise their guests with an unlikely locale, one that was somewhat off the beaten path. “We imagined an ocean backdrop, but knew we wanted it to be more formal than having ‘our toes in the sand,’” Cammye says. The answer was Tola, Nicaragua, where the bride’s family owns a vacation home. They chose Casa Los Perros, a private home overlooking the water, for their ceremony and the Inn at Rancho Santana, for their colorful reception.
This Colorado twosome worked with Denver’s Wordshop Paperie to design and purchase their Bella Figura invitations. Cammye and Jacob chose a formal style for the main invite but let their personalities shine on the information and response cards.
Since guests were all traveling for the destination wedding, the couple planned a weekend full of fun that started off with a welcome bonfire and s’mores party on the beach, and then each of the couple’s 70 guests joined them for their oceanfront rehearsal dinner. As a wedding planner, Cammye is privy to some of the coolest new ideas in the business, and when she saw these striped linens at La Tavola Fine Linen rental months before she was engaged, she knew she was in love. “I knew I had to find a bride who would use them, and then it turned out to be me!” she says.
